About the Program
Conservatory training, liberal arts setting. Nurturing creativity, reaching out to the community, entrepreneurial-ship, preparing saxophonists to succeed in their chosen area. These are key elements to the success of the UNCG saxophone studio. Internationally recognized, drawing saxophonists from around the world, including Taiwan, China, Canada, and Europe, saxophonists from UNCG are succeding in the job market, in winning positions in military bands, and continuing into graduate programs at other elite schools of music. UNCG saxophone students have won our Concerto Competition nine out of the past twelve years, and our students have placed highly in and have won the MTNA National Woodwind Competition. Our teaching philosophy is to provide students with experience in all styles, with special emphasis in classical and jazz performance. We strive to give students the tools to succeed in the music profession while stressing a liberal-arts style education. UNCG offers a full range of degrees for saxophonists including:
•Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral degrees in saxophone performance.
•Bachelor's degrees in Jazz Studies with an emphasis in saxophone.
•Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Music Education with a major in Saxophone.
•Bachelor of Arts degrees in Music (saxophone emphasis) and an outside field.
• Combined Bachelor of Arts degree (in music) with a Master's degree in Business Administration (The Pegasus Program).
•Master's degrees in Woodwind Performance with an emphasis in Saxophone.
The UNCG Saxophone studio typically averages 16 saxophone majors, 4 -6 of whom are graduate students. Students perform in a diverse mix of settings including:
• Saxophone Quartets • Saxophone Ensemble • A Wind Ensemble and two Symphonic Bands • Two Big Bands • Small Jazz Ensembles • Weekly Saxophone repertoire class
• Monthly woodwind recitals
• 2-3 Saxophone Studio Recitals each semester
• Convocation Recitals
• Chamber Music recitals

Past students in the saxophone studio have had much success in winning competitions, continuing in graduate programs at other top saxophone programs, and becoming teachers themselves at well known universities. UNCG saxophonists have been able to work with such world class musicians as:
